John Winthrop
John Winthrop was the first governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony and was one of the founders. He was on the ship Arbella in 1630 and sailed to Massachusetts. His famous speech he made is A Model of Christian Charity.” He introduces the concept of “Manifest Destiny” and served as governor for 12 years (on and off).
Anne Hutchinson
Anne Hutchinson was a devoted Puritan, that held meetings after church and discussed the sermons with friends and neighbors. The Puritan leaders grew angry with her, they thought a woman didn't have the rights to explain God’s laws. They put her on a trial with the General Court. She exposes weaknesses in arguments. She said God spoke directly to her, “By choice of His own spirit to my soul.” She was ordered out of the colony and flee to Rhode Island.
Thomas Hooker
Roger Williams
Roger Williams was a young minister that believed the Puritan Church had too much power. Williams believed in religious tolerance and the separation of church and state. On 1635, the General Court ordered him to leave Massachusetts, and he found Rhode Island.
James Oglethorpe
James Oglethorpe founded Georgia to be a place where debtors could have a fresh start. Other colonies and government imprisoned debtors until they could play off what they owned. When they were out, it meant the lived on. Oglethorpe was even kind enough to offered paying for their debt, but with the exception they’ll move to Georgia.
